There are three layers of the nail plate itself. The fungus can get in any layer or a combination of the layers. Nail fungus can be a simple discoloration on the top layer or if it starts involving the other layers it can cause abnormal thickening of the nail. It can also produce a foul odor.
Fungus likes a dark warm environment. Therefore, shoes are the perfect median for it to grow. Toenails are vulnerable around damp areas where you are likely to be walking barefoot, such as a swimming pool, locker rooms, and showers.
Injury to the nail bed may make more susceptible to all types of infection. Those who suffer from chronic disease such as diabetes, circulatory problems, or immune deficiency conditions, are especially prone to fungal nails. Hereditary factors are involved as well via your immune system does not recognize it so it does not try to fight it off. Typically, it is not indicative poor hygiene but of course it can add to it.
Treating Nail Fungus
When clients come in to ArchMasters asking about fungus nails, we usually recommend our Bako products. Our Fungus Nail Package consist of Kera Nail Gel and Clarus Antifungul Solution. The Kera Nail Gel is so strong it will penetrate the nail and carry the antifungal medicine within the nail to the site of the infection. This combination will increase the permeability and penetration by 20x.
TheraNail, also a Bako product, may be added to help increase the likelihood of a new, healthy nail. We also have a shoe spray that assists in killing bacteria and fungus. If shoes are left untreated, they can reinfect the nails.
Other treatments include oral medications but these are typically tough on the body. There are many topical treatments including prescription topicals, yet, nothing is 100% effective for all.
